We badly need a formal policy on elections addressing issues such as:
Who can nominate?
Who can be nominated?
Who can vote?
How long is the term of office? (Currently 3 years)
Can a person serve a number of terms?
How is the staggering organised?
How are the electoral areas organised?
What is the involvement by official affiliate organisations?
How is the chairperson elected?
How long is the term of office of the chairperson?
How long does the ex-chair remain on committee?
How is a substitute for the chairperson elected?
… and I’m sure there are other issues.
